RISA Solid Tenor

This is an electric tenor ukulele made by RISA in Germany. They are amongst the most popular electric ukulele makers. I happened to see this with a vendor in the Tahoe Area Uke Fest II, and picked it up from him. I use the VOX amPlug Acoustic with it for quiet practicing, and jamming with mp3 tracks.

Kamaka HF3 Tenor

This is a tenor ukulele made by Kamaka in Hawaii. They have been making Ukuleles since 1916, one of the pioneers. These are one of the finest ukuleles in the making. My idol Jake Shimabukuro plays a Kamaka Tenor as well !

This particular one is made from the wood of curly koa tree that grows in the Islands of Hawaii. It has a very fine tonal quality and full-bodied sound. I changed the strings to be D'Addario J71 nylon classical guitar strings following what Jake uses too.

Kala KA-STE Tenor

Kala Ukuleles are made with Hand selected Hawaiian Koa harvested on the Big Island of Hawaii. Fitted with Maple Binding on top and back, these instruments beg to be played! The solid sitka spruce top adds volume and clarity to the warmer mahogany body. It also has good projection and tone.

This is an electric cutaway model allowing access to the higher frets with ease. This is the tenor electric model with a Shadow active electronics pickup with tone and volume controls. These sound great both unplugged and plugged in.

  • Solid sitka spruce top
  • Solid mahogany neck
  • Typical 17" scale
  • Rosewood fingerboard and bridge
  • High quality GEARED TUNERS
  • Shadow Active undersaddle pickup with easy change battery

I got this one signed by Jake Shimabukuro during his performance at the San Francisco Jazz Fest 2009.
